The most popular and practical
camp luggage is the foot locker. It is handy, slides under
the bunk bed, and can take moderate abuse. Suitcases are OK,
too. Do not send valuable luggage. Do not bring valuables to
camp (money, expensive cameras, jewelry, keepsakes, etc.)

The most popular and practical camp luggage is the foot locker. It is handy, slides under the bunk bed, and can take moderate abuse. Suitcases are OK, too. Do not send valuable luggage. Do not bring valuables to camp (money, expensive cameras,
jewelry, keepsakes, etc.)
Please label all clothes and belongings. There is no way for the camp staff to assure that items are claimed if they are not properly labeled. It is also a good idea to make a list of a camper’s clothes and belongings and tape it to the foot locker. This list helps when packing to go home.
Each cabin is provided with fans; therefore, do not bring individual fans. No plug-in appliances are allowed. Bring only battery operated clocks and radios. Electric hair dryers and hot curlers can be brought to camp, but their use will be limited. Do not bring glass containers. Shampoo, suntan lotion, etc. should be in plastic containers only.
TVs, laptop computers, or cellular phones are not allowed—if brought to camp, they will be taken up and returned to the camper on closing day.
The camp telephone is a business phone and is used as such. Campers cannot use the telephone except in cases of emergency. We do encourage parents to call if a problem arises, such as homesickness, be it child or parent.
There is NO need for a camper to have money at camp. Snacks are covered by the camp tuition. Camp wear purchased during the session, stamps, and emergency items (lost toothbrushes, etc.) can be charged and paid for by parents on closing day. For those
campers traveling to and from camp by air, arrangements can be made with the directors for safeguarding travel money and/or airline tickets.
If campers are traveling by air, a camp representative will meet them at either Shreveport, LA (SHV) or Longview, TX (GGG) airport (commercial flights) or Center, TX (private flights). There is a charge of $25 each way. Indicate on the camper’s application that this service is needed. |
|
Camper Mail and Packages |
Mail and packages should be sent to the summer camp address in Timpson:
Camper’s Name
Camp Huawni
954 CR 4235
Timpson, Texas 75975
A limited amount of food and snack items are allowed to be sent to a camper while in camp; however, packages are to be sent to the camp director with the camper’s name indicated clearly. Items will be shared with the camper’s entire cabin. Excessive food and snack packages will be taken up at the discretion of the director. The intent is to allow a “package from home” without disrupting the regular and healthy meal schedule.
Email
Email to campers during the session should be sent through CampMinder; go to www.camphuawni.com and click on the “Photos” button; follow instructions to register. Session newsletters and photos can also be accessed through CampMinder. |

Health Care and Health Insurance |
Camp Huawni requires each camper’s health history prior to a child entering camp. Health information including a physician’s physical exam is needed to complete the health form. Camp Huawni also requires that the camper’s family health insurance provide primary coverage for accidents, illness, and health emergencies requiring doctor, dentist, hospital, and/or clinic care. When a camper’s application confirmation letter is sent, a Health Form is included. The Health Form may also be downloaded from the website.
The Camper Health Form is part of the Registration process. The Camper Health Form must be completed and returned to Camp Huawni prior to the first day of camp; enrollment in camp is conditional upon receipt and approval of the health form.
Prescription medications being taken by campers must be reported to the camp nurse either during the registration process or on opening day during the nurse interview. The camp nurse oversees the administration of prescription medication and keeps the medicine in the infirmary.
The camp nurse is a resident at Camp Huawni. The camp doctor’s office and clinic is located in Nacogdoches, Texas, a 30 minute drive from camp. |
|
Visitation |
| Because of the duration of the camp sessions and the likelihood of visitations detracting from the active program, it is advised that parents, grandparents, and friends do not visit during the camp session. Mail and email is encouraged because Mail Call at mealtime is a Big Deal. |
|
Birthdays |
| Birthdays at Camp Huawni are BIG! The cooks make a cake, the entire camp sings Happy Birthday, and the honored one is recognized at mealtime. The cake is shared with the cabin before lights out. Parents may also send a package to be presented to the honored camper. |
