Mike Adams grew up in Henderson, Texas, but his summers growing up were spent at Camp Huawni. He was an outstanding athlete at Henderson High School earning nine letters in four different sports. He graduated valedictorian of his high school class and then went on to Texas Christian University on a football scholarship. There he lettered in football as a quarterback and graduated magna cum laude with a degree in education and mathematics. From 1971 through 1973, he continued his involvement with the game of football as an assistant football coach at TCU. In 1975, earned his masters degree in agricultural economics from Texas A&M University. All the while, he devoted his summers to Camp Huawni.

In 1976, Mike married Pamela Utley, a native of Lubbock and graduate of Texas Tech University. Mike says, “It was certainly not coincidental that I met the love of my life at Camp Huawni.” Mike and Pam have been blessed with three children - Michael Anne, Travis, and Austin. Michael Anne was high school valedictorian, is a May 2001 graduate in accounting from TCU, and is a third year law student at Baylor School of Law. Travis graduated from TCU in May 2003, majoring in finance during the day and guitar at night. He is currently interning with the Edward Jones Company in St. Louis. Austin is a 2003 graduate of Henderson High School and is currently a freshman at TCU, where he plays baseball for the Horned Frogs and guitar for whomever will listen. All three have been campers and counselors at Huawni.

Mike and family live in Henderson and move to Huawni for the summer. He manages Camp Huawni year around from the home office in Henderson. Pam is principal at Central Elementary school in Henderson. Mike’s other endeavors include Royalty Pecan Farms. He is managing partner of this commercial pecan growing operation in Burleson County, Texas near Bryan/College Station. Currently, he serves as President of the Texas Pecan Board, an elected state-wide office. He is also past president of the Camp Association of Mutual Progress, an association of Texas youth camps.
