Imagine walking up to sing on the stage for the every first time. Your stomach is in knots, nerves tingling, and heart pounding in anticipation. You tried convince your counselor that you weren’t quite up to it, but after some heartfelt words and encouragement from this college kid you look up to, you mustered up the courage to sign up for skit night. Now here you are, taking the stage and gripping the mic ever so tightly. You are now asking yourself what possibly could have prompted you to actually sign up and put yourself out there in front of all of camp. Soon you hear the crowd cheering you on, even before the song begins. You begin singing, louder and with more confidence. Soon, somehow, your nerves settle and you begin to sing, better than you ever have.

This is what it is like to participate in the Camp Huawni Talent Show. It’s a time for campers to find out a little more of who they are. It’s a safe environment. No judgements. The result if freeing for these campers.

Thursday night we got to see how talented our campers truly are. Talents included singing, dancing, Jimmy Fallon skits, gymnastic routines, and even stand up comedy. What made the night really special was the enthusiasm from campers and counselors as they encouraged and lifted up each camper who had the courage to take the stage. It was obvious as each child walked off the stage that their confidence and sense of self had been boosted.

Soccer

The excitement here at Camp hit another level last night as Caddo and Tejas competed in soccer. It was a close game and we are so very proud of our teams and they way they supported their teammates and even the opposing team. This morning at staff meeting our counselors bragged about how encouraging our Berry Patch West campers were. When their teams were down, they continued to lift up and encourage their tribe to continuing playing their best. It was the icing on the cake last night…I am so very proud of these young men. It was a very close match and I am so proud of both tribes. Here’s how the scoring went down, as Tejas won a close one in the end 5-3.
