These last two days of camp, yesterday and today, are filled with everyone’s favorite things. Our activities yesterday were Connect, which means the cabins get to choose where they want to spend their activity periods collectively. Usually this means most of the camp is split between the pool and the Critter Pond. Camp’s favorite places.

Sloane W. (1 yr at camp) peeks through our inflatable obstacle course last night at celebration.

To top that off, we had Celebration last night! For those of you who don’t know, Celebration is basically a giant party that is thrown on the front lawn at Camp. This year the theme was a carnival, which called for popcorn, bounce houses, and carnival games! Everyone enjoyed the booths of Plinko, a dart board, a guessing booth, and face painting!

Frannie C. (3 yrs at camp) cools off with a Fanta during our Celebration festivities!

We ended the night with a dance party on the Hot Shot court, where everyone jammed out and showed off their prize dance moves. Overall, the night was a hit! It’s one of the favorite nights at camp. I asked a counselor, Anna Craig, why Celebration is her favorite night and she told me,

I love watching how much fun the kids have.

She said she knows it sounds weird, but just watching the kids is the best part for her. It makes sense! She loves watching people have fun. Celebration is one of those nights.

I don’t know what the joke was - but these campers seem to be loving their night at Celebration!

Claire S. (4 yrs at camp) had the best time last night using the inflatable obstacle course last night!

Today too is one of those days that everyone looks forward to all session: Summer Tree and Critter Pond Mixer. Before Summer Tree this morning, we had our Staff Meeting. At Staff meeting, we had a special guest: Dave McGinnis, a Huawni Alumnus. He spoke to us about his experience here, how he has traveled all over the world, spent 31 years in the NFL coaching, but still wants to continue to come back to Camp Huawni. He was there to encourage us this morning to really give it our all as counselors, because today is our last day so empty your tank today. One of my favorite things he told us was about the importance of our work at this camp. Our mission is to Love the Kids – LTK – and Dave made a great point:

Love is just a word until someone or something gives it meaning.

That’s what he says we’re doing here. We are giving that word meaning by loving these kids and the staff around us. He really hyped us all up to be able to do that well today, even though everyone is pretty tired we felt completely capable of loving these kids well and emptying our tanks today.

So to the parents who we’re going to see tomorrow during closing day, know that we can’t wait to see you! We can’t wait to tell you how we’ve seen your kids grow throughout these past two weeks. We’re also all going to have empty tanks because we gave it our all today – your kids too. The drive home will most likely be filled with naps. See you tomorrow!

Gabriel (3 yrs at camp) focuses as he competes in our archery tournament yesterday morning.
