Today is another beautiful and warm day at camp. Amongst the summer air and sunny skies, a lot is happening.

This morning I had the opportunity to do the ropes course and take some pictures with cabins as they did the high ropes challenge course for the first time. It had been a while since I had scaled a high ropes course, and I was reminded of how intimidating it is to be 35 feet in the air. I can only imagine what that is like for our younger campers. I could taste the fear rising welling up inside.

Campers are conquering a lot more than just the fear of heights this week at camp. Whether it is overcoming the fear of leaving home for the first time, getting along with someone who is unkind, trying another daunting activity, or putting yourself out on the stage in front of the entire camp, campers are learning what they fear, why they fear it, and in the process learning more about who they truly are. The layers of learning who we truly are are beginning to peel off and campers are starting to blossom. This is the sweet spot of camp and why we do what we do. We hope to share those stories along the way.

Today has been another full day of activities. Tonight we will put on our fishing shirts and head to the Initiation Pond for a little cane pole fishing, s’mores, counselor game of chubby bunny, and sing song. Froggy Went A Courtin’ and Shelby County Breeze will be first on the playlist.

Also, I appreciate all of you who have asked for a free copy of Last Child In The Woods by Richard Louv. If you missed our post, you can get caught up here. I hope to post another chapter very soon!

Finally, I would like to thank all our alumni and Huawni Families who donated to our #BringBackTheRopesCourse campaign. Thanks to these generous folks who gave to our scholarship fund , the ropes course is now a reality! We are so grateful!! Here’s a short video to celebrate this wonderful accomplishment.
