Just when you think a party can’t get any better, you go to Carthage. Although you may know Carthage as the town where Huawni alum Matthew McConaughey starred in the movie Bernie, it’s also the home of the Joffrion Family, who hosted an amazing party on their outdoor patio, fully furnished with a cozy fire and gas heaters! If you consider Huawni as one of the best summer camps in East Texas, you’d definitely consider the Joffrion’s patio as one of the finest in all of East Texas…it was way cool.

Alum Kathleen Joffrion Kruebbe and her daughter Avery pulled out some old school camp pictures that allowed us to relive the sweetness that is Huawni Tradition. We wrapped up the party with an impromptu sing song. Avery requested “Salty Dog”, Rachel B. requested “Long Black Veil”, and we taught future camper Tripp the words to “When I First Came To This Land.” Thank you Kruebbe family for hosting and thank you Kristan Cates (staffer) for LTKing on a chilly night in Carthage. You are what makes Huawni truly one of the best summer camps in East Texas.

We’ll see you in Lufkin tonight!!

Avery proudly displayed her camp pics.
