| Camp Huawni - Nestled in the Piney Woods of East Texas |
Camp Huawni is located in Shelby County, Texas between the small towns of Timpson and Center, Texas. Hidden in the pine forests of East Texas, the campsite is situated well off the beaten path on land that has been in the Adams family for nearly four generations.
Since we are deep in the heart of East Texas, we aren't the easiest place to find (and we like it that way)! To find our summer camp and get customized driving directions, see the map embedded at the bottom of this page.
We look forward to seeing new and returning campers each and every year at Camp Huawni. If you are registered for Camp, we will send you more detailed information but you can find a general schedule of our opening and closing day itineraries below. |
| Opening and Closing Day |
| Opening day is on Sunday from 2 pm to 5 pm. The camp gate opens at 1:45 pm and you will be notified of which check-in group you are assigned to a few days before your session begins. During check-in, campers and parents have the opportunity to visit the Camp nurse for any health concerns. Campers are assigned their cabin, move in, and meet their counselors and cabin mates. The evening meal kicks off the session at 5:30 pm.
Closing day is on Saturday from 10 am to 12 noon. Parents arrive and head to the Dining Hall to go through the check-out process and campers will meet parents in the Dining Hall at 11 am, after their final pow-wow, for awards and Closing Ceremonies. |
| Visitation and Communication During Camp |
Because of the duration of the camp sessions and the likelihood of visitations detracting from the active program, it is advised that parents, grandparents, and friends do not visit during a camper's session. Mail and email is encouraged because Mail Call at mealtime is a big deal.
Mail and packages should be sent to the summer Camp address in Timpson:
Camper's Name Camp Huawni 954 CR 4235 Timpson, Texas 75975
Please limit the amount of food and snack items you send to you children while at Camp as we don't want to disrupt your child's regular meal schedule.
Email to campers during the session should be sent through our summer e-mail and photo program - CampInTouch. Please see Summer Photos & Mail section for more information on registering. This program is where we will post session news updates and daily photos, so please obtain access if you wish to follow the fun at Camp Huawni. We will also post regular updates on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. |
| Camp Huawni Open House |
Two times each summer, we open the Camp gates for visitors who would like to see Camp Huawni for themselves, whether they have a child that is almost Camp age, or would just feel more comfortable seeing the campus before sending their child to Camp Huawni.
A sample of the Open House itinerary includes a tour of Camp Huawni (while Camp is in session and all the action is happening); a meet and greet with Directors and other staff; lunchtime with Camp; and a period for Questions & Answers. We will post upcoming Open House dates each year as they are planned, but please feel free to contact the Camp Office for any questions in the meantime. |
