| Camp Huawni Campus and Lodging |
Camp Huawni is a co-ed residential, overnight camp for boys and girls located in Shelby County, Texas, between the small towns of Timpson and Center. The campsite is hidden in the piney woods on about 60 acres of land that has been in the Adams family for three generations.
The Girls Camp is located on the South campus and the Boys Camp is located on the North campus. Campers lodge at Camp Huawni in open-air, naturally cooled cabins.
Sleeping is in spacious double bunk beds and 8 to 14 campers are assigned to each cabin, and there are usually 3-5 counselors that stay with campers in each cabin.
Bathhouse facilities are located just outside the cabins with two to four cabins assigned to a separate bathhouse. Showers are equipped with hot and cold water. Campers keep soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, and personal items in a kit that they take with them to the bathhouse. |
| Living the Clean Life |
Camp Huawni provides campers with a 'second home' in Texas. That means they have to make their beds and clean up after themselves too!
Every morning after breakfast is cabin clean-up where campers make their own beds, sweep the cabin, and keep it livable for the active day ahead. Campers are also tasked with clean-up after mealtime, which teaches them to take pride in their table!
Of course we make this necessary process fun when Hector the Inspector and his cohorts inspect the cabins for cleaniless, and fun prizes are awarded to the highest scoring cabins at the end of each session.

| Medical Care |
Camp Huawni employs a full-time staff nurse who resides at Camp Huawni during the summer sessions. The Camp doctor's office and clinic is located in Nacogdoches, Texas, which is approximately 30 minutes from Camp. The most common illnesses are earaches, sprains, anything that needs a band-aid, and the occasional bout of homesickness. The nurse dispenses a lot of TLC.
Camp Huawni requires each camper's health history prior to a child entering Camp. Health information including a physician's physical exam is needed to complete the health form. Camp Huawni also requires that the camper's family health insurance provide primary coverage for accidents, illness, and health emergencies requiring doctor, dentist, hospital, and/or clinic care. A copy of the health form can be found under the Forms and Documents section of your CampInTouch account.
Any prescription medications that campers are on must be reported to the camp nurse either during the registration process or on opening day during the nurse interview. The camp nurse oversees the administration of prescription medication and keeps the medicine in the infirmary. |
